To Go or Not To Go – The ICJ

An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.

“I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.”
–Thomas Jefferson to William C. Jarvis, 1820. ME 15:278

One thing that gets me is the idea that because someone is against going to the ICJ they are somehow making uneducated decisions in the eyes of those that say they know better and/or are educated and want to go, as if we are not “Patriotic” or Belizean enough.

All while those that know or are educated are doing little to nothing to properly educate the rest of Belize as to what the reality is about the history of the Belize Guatemala issue.

It took legally educated peoples decades to get the knowledge they have on the topic and it’s expected that a Normal Belizean should make an educated vote on something that they know nothing about or with a little drop in the ocean.. It’s like asking a fish to breath out of water or climb a tree.

We keep being told that we have exhausted all options in this claim issue but we have not, it’s a blatant lie. We are told that we have brought this up into all possible forums, we have not. We are told that the ICJ, because we have exhausted all other options is our last chance, it is not; that is a lie.

We have not ever taken this before any legal fora of any kind, all we have are a bunch of pundits siting behind a name that say they support Belize and write little note without taking action to back up their words.

A few years ago we saw military action to defend a reef in the Pacific, but all the military attacks against Belizeans in their own lands happen and the world remains quiet, those same people that sit behind those org names sit by and watch.

Guatemala can’t even respect their own ruling to recognize Belize, what makes you think they will respect someone else’s ruling?

If you know better, please educate the rest of us Normal Belizeans instead of looking at us down your noses as if it’s our fault that we are uneducated on this important topic. It’s because of those that know that refuse to educate others for whatever reason, that many are left with the option to self educate as best as we can. When people ask you questions, stop being pompous as if it’s a crime that we don’t know.. Remember, the system refused to create an educated populace and still does? Why, what’s the fear in ensuring that the Belizean populace is an educated one that can make educated decisions on things that impact their lives?

Stop trying to belittle those that don’t agree with you and sidelining the discussions us Normal Belizeans try to have so we can hopefully learn the truth.
