A brief outline on Amendment 9

Everyone has their opinion on this “proposed” already in progress Amendment to hit the Belizean populace; there still seems to be those that prefer to play the old game of party politics and confuse people so that their masters can get their way. Listen people, no matter how you paint the 9th or how much flower and perfume you put on it; it still remains one of the most ugly and foul-smelling items on the tables for Jewelizeans both in the Jewel and abroad.

The 9th is in all honesty, nothing more than a doorway to allow the current UDP Govt and any other party to simply do as they please with no one to fight back as that will from that point on be illegal. Think things are bad right now? Think you are being victimized today? Wait until this makes it’s way into the constitution and shit hits the fan; then you will understand what “And now yuh caca tary” and “gawn to raas” really mean.

Here is a short discussion I had on Facebook about this:

The BNTU is questioning what benefits Belize will have to own our utilities… there are asking the wrong question, the question should be what benefit was derived when we DID NOT own our utilities??? The only ¨benefit¨ Belize had was repatriated profits, exorbitant management fees, huge legal fees and of course higher rates and deteriorating service…

Cayo Buay
The other question, and the more important one should be.. Who will benefit from the 9th.. Most certainly not Jewelizeans, at least not the ones outside of the friends and family circles.

Like I always say… Always ask… For who? ….

A better Belize. For who?
Privatized utilities. For who?

A better belize for all of us and a belizean owned utility for all belizeans… it is only belizeans that can benefit from owning something anything here in Belize… why should the mennonites, chinese, indians, jamaicans, british, canadians, americans, and everyone else own vital assets in our jewel but we should not????

Cayo Buay
Yeah but which Belizeans? Just like how all Belizeans are benefiting from the oil right?

Seems like everything is for all Belizeans until its time to actually reap the rewards then we really see which Belizeans they really were talking about.

Barrow is running a family business called Belize. Who can’t see that seriously need help.

Careful what you wish, you just might get it.

Watch this

This is my contribution to the issue…

SECTION 2 of the Constitution currently reads:

This Constitution is the supreme law of Belize and if any other law is inconsistent with this Constitution that other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void.

What does that mean for the Jewel and all the Jewelizeans spread all over the world?

ANY law in the country of Belize is subject to the constitution as it is the SUPREME LAW of Belize. Any law that is to be proposed MUST be in accordance to the Constitution. It cannot violate but MUST be in agreement with the constitution or else the new law is VOID and cannot be accepted.

What does Amendment 9 say?

If the 9th is passed and we know it will as the current Govt makes up the house so they have all their bases covered.  When the Govt of the day decides to pass a law, they can AMEND or ADD it to the CONSTITUTION and that new law, would not fall under this rule or condition.

In other words, the Government will still not be able to pass any laws that are in violation of the constitution, however; and here is the catch…  This amendment allows them to alter the constitution by adding their new law to the constitution; it then becomes part of the constitution and therefore it will not be classified as a violation.

Remember this:  “No monkey seh ih pikney ugly” and “No fisha man seh ih fish stink.”

Are you getting this? Good… Now go stand up and fight against Amendment 9, it is not good for Belize.

Look out for more on this item of interest soon.

  1. CB..unu noh wah get me started….Belizeans man..put all politics aside and really look at what this idiot is trying to be nice….this is all for his benefit…KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE OIL…I could bet you all when he leaves office…the other millions will come from the oil..his nephew is just keeping a face until the real monster shows his evil face. Mien..this is the reason why I am so strict on my kids at school. I dont allow them to give me any answers on the surface. They need to use their critical thinking skills and analyse properly or else i throw back the work at them. This is whats is happening now. The great skill of Dean Barrow is now in action and everyone else was used to being mediocre. Now…look at us….leaving with the shitty end of the stick..

    1. I agree Anne, we have not seen the worst of it. The sad part is that none of the politicians in opposition today that claim to care for and want to do better for the jewel and Jewelizeans are doing anything much at all.

They are literally fly by night politicians if you ask me. Seriously, the only time I hear from the oppositions is right when issues come up, they stick around for a few days; and then right back to their dark crevices.

Today, more than ever, we need real representation; not with balls, but like Betty White said, with vaginas, those things take a pounding. We need representation that will walk the walk, that will take the bulls by the horns and bring it down.

I agree on the education part, it is something I keep saying over and over; the people need to be educated the right way so that they can do the right thing when they go to the polls and when the time comes for it. I keep saying, you don’t need a lot of money to win an election, what you need most importantly is to wake the people up, they will do the rest when the time is right.

Do they still teach reading comprehension at school? I loved those classes, it is something that too many are coming out of school without for whatever reason and it needs to be corrected. I try to install that mentality in my son as well; a vital part of ensuring they will be successful in the future and can discern right from wrong when others will not be able to.

Dean is an intelligent man, I’ll give him that. Over time he has scrutinized our system ad found every single loophole in it; patiently waiting his turn to be at the drivers seat. The people have become docile, domesticated animals in his animal farm…

“All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work; they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything they did was for the benefit of themselves and those of their kind who would come after them, and not for a pack of idle, thieving human beings.”

“If she herself had had any picture of the future, it had been of a society of animals set free from hunger and the whip, all equal, each working according to his capacity, the strong protecting the weak.”

      – George Orwell, Animal Farm

And there you have it. Either we band together and fight this Phantom Menace or we all go down further in the mud; never to be heard again.

      1. I think Nationalization is a good thing too, if done the right way of course.

So basically the changes the 9th will bring are actually 2, I talk about the most important one in my article because that is the one that no one is paying attention to and it is the most important and detrimental to the plans of the political system.

        1. There is the topic of Nationalizing public utilities.
Nothing wrong with that, except that when you do it by force and put it in the constitution, it give the Govt all rights over anything they consider a public utility.

Lets say for example, you have a huge amount of money in a bank, as well as so many other people. The Govt decides that banks are a public utility/service and they want to take it over and control your money. All they have to do is make an law that fits into the constitution that declares banks a public utility/service (because of item 2.) and there you go. You can imagine the rest.

        2. They are opening the constitution to be changeable without any one being able to question or challenge them. This is what I explained in the actual article.

  2. As far as nationalization goes, here is what I think should have been done with the BTL case.

Instead of nationalizing BTL and taking over a company on the brink of collapse, the Govt should have nationalized the fiber connections to and throughout the country.

Doing this would provide a leverage that would allow for better control of fees involved in providing service, improvement of quality of said service and other things like, ensure that schools and libraries get free internet as well as creating a level and fair playing fields for competition in the telcom market.

Why do I think the Govt took over BTL?

I had spoken of this before and I’ll say it again, it is now playing out day by day.

The reason for the takeover was nothing more than control, and dictatorship. Think about it, if you control the company that provides telcom service, you control the information that is on that networks traffic.

Most recently we have seen the forcing people to register their phones using the if your phone get’s lost or stolen excuse. What that does is creates a central database of who has which phone, this makes it faster for them to track you down. The match the EID of the phone they are listening on to the owner that is registered in the database and bam.

BTL has signed a deal with RIM/Blackberry phones. These phones are the easiest phones to use for this purpose. The phones allow for remote administration, so they can browse the contents of your phone without you knowing, the phones can be setup to backup to a central database location where they can diagnose, lurk and pretty much do as they please with it.

There is so much more that are options for them to use and by owning the telcom company they can pretty much do as they please all without you even knowing it.
