The tea party are apparently against many ills facing the nation, they have now added a new one to their portfolio, Manatees. Seems like nature is now part of the problem.

According to the story on St. Petersburg Times, Edna Mattos, 63, leader of the Citrus County Tea Party Patriots made this statement:

We cannot elevate nature above people,that’s against the Bible and the Bill of Rights.

Kings Bay, famed as the one place in Florida where humans can swim with and even touch the manatees, is facing a renewed battle over how much protection for manatees is too much. That argument has been going on there since Jacques Cousteau featured Kings Bay’s manatees in his 1972 documentary Forgotten Mermaids.

I don’t know of a more dangerous place for manatees in the summer

said Pat Rose of the Save the Manatee Club.

We believe that (federal regulators’) aim is to control the fish and wildlife, in addition to the use of the land that surrounds this area, and the people that live here and visit. … As most of us know, this all ties in to the United Nations’ Agenda 21 and Sustainability.

Agenda 21 is a program, adopted by the U.N. in 1992, to encourage countries around the world to promote only development that does not harm nature. The Citrus County tea party group’s website says

Agenda 21 is designed to make humans into livestock.

This is so absurd; how can a party claim to be standing for change, make a statement like this, and to top it off; use Religion to fuel their cause. What I want to know is what part of the Bible says that saving wildlife is a bad thing.

If we refer back to the Bible we can clearly see that quite the opposite is true.. Here are some  reference notes:

God Protected the Different Species

Genesis 6

19 And of every living thing of all flesh
you shall bring two of every sort into the ark,
to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
20 Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind,
and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind,
two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.
21 And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten,
and you shall gather it to yourself;
and it shall be food for you and for them.

Genesis 7:8-10

8 Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean,
of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth,
9 two by two they went into the ark to Noah,
male and female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth.

God Expects Humans to be His Stewards with Nature

Genesis 1

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;
let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
over the birds of the air, and over the cattle,
over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

Lev. 25:23-24

23 ‘The land shall not be sold permanently,
for the land is Mine;
for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.
24 And in all the land of your possession you shall grant redemption of the land.

Ezekiel 34

2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel,
prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds:
“Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves!
Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
3 You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool;
you slaughter the fatlings,
but you do not feed the flock.
4 The weak you have not strengthened,
nor have you healed those who were sick,
nor bound up the broken,
nor brought back what was driven away,
nor sought what was lost;
but with force and cruelty you have ruled them.

Isaiah 24:4-6

4 The earth mourns and fades away,
The world languishes and fades away;
The haughty people of the earth languish.
5 The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants,
Because they have transgressed the laws,
Changed the ordinance,
Broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth,
And those who dwell in it are desolate.
Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned,
And few men are left.
